My BSc Multimedia degree is basically completed.
The last few weeks have been exhausting but I managed to get there in the end and get my project into shape for my final presentation. The first public showing of Slight Intention will be this coming Saturday and possibly towards the end of June it will be put up properly on-line. As it stands the project is done and there are a number of features that work, it just needs sprucing up here and there until I’m fully happy to allow people to use it and comment/criticise it.
I have the School of Digital Media (SDM) Exhibition upcoming this Saturday that I’m looking forward to but besides that I’ve spent the last 3 days feeling pretty weird in terms of having headaches and feeling sick.
Post-Uni has been abit weird so far, it feels quite surreal not having to sit down in front of the computer and sit there staring (or most cases, screaming) at the Flash interface for several hours, but I’m in the process of backing up everything and wiping the PC/Laptop which is always a good feeling as it usually means I’ve done what I’ve set out to do and can start fresh again.
Over the past week I’ve caught up on some movies, mainly Spaceballs, Pirates of the Carribean 3, Zodiac and The Hitcher. All of which are recommended if your into those particular genres. Out of those I’d say Zodiac was the most surprising is a pretty good/intelligent movie.

Going cheap at Tesco Jersey for £8.97
Highly recommend this game. It’s good for killing 15/20 minutes here or there and also you can play games online (E.g. Pool).
Will be creating a page sometime down the line with my friend code on.

Regular Expressions were something that were recently suggested to me during my 2nd VIVA presentation, with regards to form validation.
My initial encounter of the regular expression code was quite scary but then after doing some research I came across this article on sitepoint about Using Regular Expressions and PHP.
I have to admit, this article is very good and worthy of a read. It’s certainly going to influence my validation down the line and will be something I’m going to incorporate into my PHP regarding my major project (Slight Intention).
Alternatively you can find out more information about Regular Expressions at http://www.regular-expressions.info/

I was pretty happy with the feedback I got considering I managed to only get a hour and half sleep.
Basically the presentation went well, although I think I spoke to fast and confused people, but there was alot of questions asked (and alot more people watching). They should market the vivas as some sort of weight less program, it would put weight watchers out of business.
The feedback was basically this:
- They still believe the project is a great idea and are looking forward to seeing the end result…..
- …..however they don’t feel I’ll be able to complete it in time.
I respect that feedback and there’s been points over the past few weeks where I’ve had the same attitude, however the past couple of weeks I’ve enjoyed (most of the time when stuff has moved forward) working on the project and I do believe I’m seeing the benefits.
I have much of a clear mind of what I need to do now, the main problem (which was highlighted in my viva) is my knowledge of Actionscript but I’m pretty determined to pull this thing off.
I’m now off to watch 300 and try and regain a healthy sleep pattern

Tonight something stupid happened.
Whilst locking the car up (and carrying a monitor and shopping) was absent minded enough to leave the keys in the car door.
Later I went on abit of a panic looking for them and couldn’t find them, so I got home and picked up the spares and when I arrived back a lady asked me if I owned the car and informed me that her son had seen the keys in the car door and took them home.
They also left a note on my dashboard (which I missed) saying to call over to their house which was nothing short but awesome of them.
I shall be getting them so sort of present to say thanks

Something that bothers me is my lack of motivation during the day.
For example, today I struggled to get things started and I didn’t do alot of what I wanted to do, but in the last 20 minutes I’ve started hitting a stride and a sudden urgency to work.
It’s quite frustrating, I’ll keep on going while I listen to the new City and Colour Live album and then will have to clock in a few hours sleep, got a busy day ahead but hopefully tomorrow my project will have alot more direction and I can start dancing on that yellow brick road….
Let’s finish with a plug:

You know you want to, I will be

In 7 days time I have to present my work on my major project ( Slight Intention ) that I have done since Christmas.
On top of that I’m going to finish off my portfolio website and will also have to hand that up a week Friday….Happy Days
The portfolio is mainly done, the outline is there, I just need to style things up and add my work.
On a side note, Worms has been released for Xbox Live Arcade and has proved to be a huge distraction! (Xbox Live Gamer Tag: Mister Ste // if anyone is interested :P)
Also had a meeting with 2 gentlemen who run a local magazine about doing some work starting in June which should be interesting.
From here on out it’s going to be one fantastic emotional ride until the end of May. Fingers crossed it will be worth it though!

Font-size and ems are something that I’ve never been able to wrap my head around.
I think it was mainly down to the fact that I didn’t fully understand them and why they were used over px for font-sizes in css.
However, while I’m sitting here making my portfolio website (which is coming soon!), I came across this website: CSS Font Size Explained
So expect the portfolio to use em’s unless I’ve implemented them wrong
